Not just me running for Mayor, it’s about a transformation of our community

I believe in Fort Wayne. We are a great community. Not 2nd class to anyone. We have the right to be proud of our community and I’m going to shout it from the rooftops until every man, woman and child in Fort Wayne believes it with me.

Hold your head high when you say you are from Fort Wayne.

We should expect more from our City leadership than just getting the basics right. You know from my 8 years on County Council that I will put the financial house in order for the City of Fort Wayne. My administration will make sure that the potholes are patched, the snow is plowed, leaves and branches are picked up quickly. We should also expect a community that is safe, free from gangs, drugs and violent crime.

But we can’t stop there.

I chose this location for my announcement to emphasize two points:

First, the single most important thing I can do as Mayor is make sure that we have a great environment for business. My family has been in business since
1964 and I know what it takes to meet payroll week in and week out and that healthy businesses provide jobs for the people that live here. We have to be a community of “How can I help?” Not the community of “We don’t do it that way”. We can and should be known as the best and easiest place to do business in Indiana. New and expanding businesses are the lifeblood that keeps this community working. My commitment to jobs is unwavering. Good Jobs are the foundation of our economy, our community and our families.

Second, this branch of our business is located in New Haven, a government neighbor to Fort Wayne. I’m proud to see Mayor Terry McDonald of New Haven in the crowd because it is crucial that we build connections to our neighbors. What is good for Fort Wayne is good for New Haven, what’s good for New Haven is good for Fort Wayne. And not just New Haven. Building connections to the County and across the region will elevate all of us. I have worked on County
Council for 8 years and I worked side by side with City officials for 6 years when I was running the Downtown Improvement District. I have seen the way strong relationships help communities rise up to overcome challenges and reach out to capture success.

I have big plans for the City of Fort Wayne and you are going to hear more about them throughout this next year. Today is just the kick off for this campaign. I appreciate all of you being here because I can’t do it alone.

Running the campaign gets us to the starting line to bring out the best in our community. I need all of you to help me get to that starting line and then I need you to run along beside me as we take Fort Wayne into the future. We have work to do to put our house in order and to build the connections that will help us all succeed.

I believe in Fort Wayne and I believe in the great people that live here. This is my HOME. Thank you for your show of faith in me and in the future of our community. I can’t wait to get started!
